Georgia Industry Research Assignment [Extra Credit] Due 12.13.21 Assignment For extra credit, you have an opportunity to do some advanced research on the Georgia videogame industry as it stands right now in 2021. You will select and research a Georgia game studio, providing a detailed analysis of its history, titles, and reputation. Details Students will choose a company from the list found here. You can choose any company (Hi-Rez and Trip Wire are the largest and might have the most information, but there are plenty of others). You will then build an analysis of that company, combining infomation such as: The company's history Company structure (Privately owned? Parent company?) Market position/product focus Successes/Failures Controversies Relationship with employees Public perception hdustry role (Studio? Publishe? Active? Inactive?) Not all of these topics need to be covered for every company. Do your research and decide what is the most relevant to your chosen company. Cover as many topics as possible for your company. Then, write up your research in an approximately 750-800 words summary (which should result in about 3ish pages, double spaced) and deliver your report by December 13 at midnight to the folder on iCollege. No late assignments will be accepted for any reason. This is because final grades are due shortly thereafter. Reports must conform to Standard Paper Format (see syllabus). Approach You are researching this company as a scholar and potential future employee, not as a fan. A fan would open up the company's Wikipedia page, and perhaps the first page of results on Google, and make conclusions from there. That's not what a scholar would do, and not what you should do for this report. You can start at those preliminary sources to get your bearings, but then dig deeper. Profiles with and journalistic articles about company executives or significant company events o One good source is the website Gamasutra/Game Developer Review the company's social media history, which often gives you a good idea of how they try to position themselves in the market For that matter, be sure to review the company website, which often contains some valuable information about what the company wants to say about its history, executives, etc. Look for interviews with current and former employees Google Scholar - search for the company and for significant game titles. Go a few pages deep here and see what exists Is the company publicly traded on the stock market? You will likely find business articles related to it on the bigger stock trading analysis sites The GSU library typically has access to online business databases and journals. Extra Credit Points A good assignment is worth up to 4 points on your final grade, meaning that after all other grades are entered and settled, you could get up to 4 points added on top. This is significant4% of your overall semester grade, potentiallyand could make the difference for some students.
