NEED HELP RUNNING THE CODE TO DO THIS IN MATLAB FOR PART C,D, AND E, USED A RECORDING OF SAYING THE ALPHABET FOR THIS.
You are tasked to develop a simple speech processing algorithm to be used with a 9 electrode cochlear implant system. You should perform the following exercises to improve your understanding of the basics of speech processing and how it can be implemented into electrical stimulation of the cochlea.
A. You will record a segment of your own (and/or another student or your partners) speech. As part of this you should record a wide variety of speech patterns, including things such as the alphabet, phonemes and even singing. You should record, store, and transfer these to your own computer. There are a number of free programs for your computer/tablet/phone/etc that will allow you to easily do this (see backyardbrains.com for a nice phone app or Matlab has a built in function).
B. Port your speech segment into an appropriate signal analysis program (ie matlab).
C. Develop a routine that converts the raw time varying speech signal into nine distinct 'features'. These features should capture frequency information from the raw signal, as this will be used in Part E. There are a number of ways to do this, but classical ones such as the FFT or wavelet transformation are certainly appropriate.
D. Compare different segments of your speech samples. For example, how might you distinguish the //f// sound from the //k// sound?
E. Develop a conceptual algorithm that converts the features from the spectra is parts A-C into an electrical stimulation pattern that would be applicable for stimulating the cochlea at different locations along its tonotopic organization. Again, this should be conceptual (ie using boxes and information flow) but should show sufficient detail for someone to understand the concept and
