In this course, you have spent time envisioning systems and all of their moving parts. The real challenge is pulling all those moving parts together into a cohesive plan. You must consider the many different departments and teams that are either responsible for or affected by some portion of the work. In this milestone, you will start creating a project charter that will help you coordinate and plan the work of making technical changes to a network.

Having a charter will help you to think about the project's goals. What business needs will the work you complete satisfy? What is the final product you will deliver to meet those needs? How can you deconstruct your larger vision into smaller components? With the end goal identified, you can work backward on the plan to meet it. You can break the project down into smaller tasks that can be assigned to specific people or teams.

For this milestone, you will focus on the overarching goal and how it will serve the organization. In your next milestone, you will begin deconstructing your vision into manageable components.

Scenario

The ACME Company executives are surprised by all the potential vulnerabilities and areas for improvement you found in its network. They want to move immediately toward a multilayered approach to security that addresses the three risk domains ofpeople,process, andtechnologyby building on the information you have already provided. The ACME Company hires you to create a comprehensive project management plan to address one vulnerability for each risk domain because you know the network's vulnerabilities and have project management experience.
