Jay Davis has recently been promoted to V. P. at Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) and put in charge of the company's lean manufacturing initiative - The Volvo Production System (VPS). The VPS initiative is to be implemented over the next three years at all its manufacturing plants world-wide. Davis, a Canadian expatriate working from Brussels, Belgium, will be traveling to each of the Volvo CE's international facilities over the next two years to meet with local plant management and enabling them to fully implement the VPS program in year three. Davis in thinking about the hectic travel schedule facing him begins to wonder how he might handle the cultural differences he might encounter as he tours the Volvo CE facilities around the world.

QUESTIONS: - What could the managers in Brussels do to adequately prepare for Davis for his new assignment other than hand him a few books to read? What cultural issues/concerns could be problematic upon first meeting the management teams?
