Question $1$:

A chemical plant storage facility shall be built from timber at Townsville, QL$.$ The roof of the

structure shall be made of prefabricated truss system. A structural analysis shows that the

bottom chord will be under tension due to a permanent load of $15kN$ and an imposed action

arising from frequent but irregular loads of $12kN.$ Assume that the member is in an

environment with average moisture content of $25\%$ throughout the year.

The available timber cross sections are $21050mm$ from Balau of strength grade F$11$ and fully

seasoned. The chord connections at the end shall be using two M$14$ bolts as shown in Fig $1.$

Determine the tension capacity of the member and check if the tensior member is suitable to

carry the applied loads.
