A Regional Medical Center keeps information on patients, clinic assignments, and patient rooms. The system assigns each patient a medical record number. In addition, the patient's name and date of birth are recorded. Some patients are inpatients (they spend at least one night in the hospital) and others are outpatients (they are treated in a clinic and released). Over time, patients may be both inpatients and outpatients. Inpatients are assigned to a hospital room, and may return for additional stays. Each room is identified by a room number. The system also stores the room type (private or semiprivate), and room fee. Over time, each room will have many patients that stay in it. Each inpatient will stay in only one room during a visit. Every room must have had a patient, and every inpatient must have a room. Outpatients are assigned to one or more clinics. Clinics may have multiple locations that stay very busy treating patients.
