Now that weve had our multiple paper assignments, this weeks discussion is the opportunity to discuss writing skills with your classmates. Writing is a large part of college classes and as a student in an introductory class you may still be finding yourself in terms of getting a good plan for writing papers. Writing is also a very solo activity so having an open discussion may allow you to connect with others that have similar issues, questions or approaches to writing. This week Im asking you to outline your strengths in writing and also your weaknesses or things you want to work on in your writing. Keep in mind that writing actually includes lots of things that arent sitting and typing into a Word document (like brainstorming, planning the time to write, forming an outline, finding sources and taking feedback from previous writing forward into the future). Dont forget to respond to a fellow student. This week that might take the form of sympathy (since many of us have similar hurdles in writing) or it might also be offering ideas or advice on handling the weaknesses. My example post: My strength in writing in probably my ability to organize my thoughts. As a conscientious person (Hey! A Big Five personality reference!) I see my organization in writing as an asset. I can form outlines of my ideas to guide my writing, sometimes I write these down and sometimes I just have them in the back of mind while I work on writing. Im also organized in my planning, leaving enough time to complete a piece of writing in time for a due date. A weakness is definitely my occasional prioritization of other tasks over writing. If there is something else to do, even something I dont enjoy doing, I sometimes choose that over writing. I end up feeling like writing is intimidating and such a big job so I choose to fold laundry, clean, or do prep for classes instead of writing. One way I am working on this is by breaking down my writing into manageable chunks (such as write this one paragraph or find one source on some topic) and adding them to my to-do list so writing doesnt feel like such a large task. Plus, checking something off a to-do list is very satisfying to me!NOTE: NO AI GENERATE PLEASE!!!1
