Objective 1 - Describe the underlying process in diarrhea and constipation and correlate them with the types of drugs used to treat these conditions, specifically optimal GI function. Objective 2 - Describe the therapeutic actions, indications, pharmacokinetics, contraindications and cautions, most common adverse reactions, and important drug-drug interactions associated with laxativ and anti-diarrheal drugs. (Polycarbophil, psyllium, docusate, biscadoyl, loperamide) Objective 4 - Compare and contrast the prototype laxatives and antidiarrheals with other agents in their class and with other classes of laxatives and anti-diarrheals.
