OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this assignment is to provide learners with an opportunity to understand how decisions are made pertaining to human resource development (HRD) programmes. It also enables learners to determine the purpose of creating ones own HRD programmes or purchasing them from vendors instead, and explore how the HRD programmes are conducted by the organisation.
REQUIREMENT:
You are required to answer THREE (3) tasks. This assignment should be completed individually.
PART I (90%):
TASK 1 (50%)
A make-or-buy decision is an act by human resource practitioners and trainers for choosing between manufacturing a product in-house or purchasing it from an external supplier. There are many factors that may tilt a company from making an item in-house or outsourcing it. It is recommended for companies to conduct an analysis to determine whether making or buying is the most cost-efficient method.
Conduct a telephone/skype/email/face-to-face interview with a Human Resource Manager in your own organisation or any other organisation which preferably, is at least a middle sized organisation.
- Write a report on the findings. Provide clear and relevant information on the background of the organisation and the HR Department structure. Do not disclose the name of the organisation unless you have obtained permission from the management.
- Explain the reasons why HRD programmes are conducted and its relative worth to the goals and strategies in the organisation of your choice.
- Determine the purpose of making your own HRD programmes to be conducted by the organisation, or buying them from external sources.
- Explore how the HRD programmes (whether made or bought) are evaluated for their effectiveness to determine whether these programmes were the solution to the HR Departments pursuit for excellence among employees.
- Provide recommendations to enhance the HRD programmes for the organisation as we know that training and development is an organisational activity which is carried out to improve performance of the employees through the process of learning. Justify your recommendations.
