Objective: This lab covers Work Sampling principles discussed in Chapter 14 and class videos. The objective of this lab is for each student to determine the percentage of productive and nonproductive time, understand confidence intervals and accuracy, and understand the relevance of the number of samples needed for an accurate work-sampling study.
Instructions
You will complete this lab by yourself. You shall make at least 75 random observations of someone or yourself over a one-week period to gather data to determine the percentage of productive and nonproductive work spent during an average day. For example, an average day could be a "normal" day at work or school from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or some other 8-hour period that you consider "normal" (thus, the week of Spring Break is not usable for those who are observing themselves at school). Observe this person an equal number of times each day. For example, if you plan to follow yourself over five days, you must make 15 observations daily (or 25 observations per day over three days). Record this person's activities on a Work Sampling form that you develop. Your workstudy observations must be submitted no later than 4/22 @ 8:00 p.m. If you do not submit by that date, you will receive a "0" for the lab.
