Procedure

1. Brainstorm about which variables may be relevant to increasing the friction of a block (m2) on a flat or incline surface by modifying the types, properties of the block also the type, properties of the surface. Record your answers in a list.

2. Identify a potential variable from that list which is most likely to be capable of increasing friction.

3. In a Word document, design an experiment which isolates that variable. For example, make an experiment which, if successful at increasing friction, could only be explained in terms of the identified variable. In your experimental design, include information about:

a. All dependent, independent and control variables

b. What result you are expecting to see for your dependent variable if you vary the dependent variable.

Formulate hypothesis.

i. Would the friction increase, decrease, or stay the same?

ii. If there is a change, predict the amount.

Keep in mind that there may be more than one relevant variable. Your experiment must determine the effect of just one variable (whichever one you identify in step 2).
