Methodology

Project Location: This should be precisely stated. For example, if the project entails conducting a survey within a particular region of the country, it would be useful to state the specific sub$-$regions that will be visited. On the other hand, in the case of field trial being carried out at the Faculty$$s Research Facility, it will suffice to mention the name of the facility without trying to detail which block will be used, since such details may not be available at the time of writing.

Experimental Design: The usual experimental designs such as the Completely Randomized Design or the Randomized Complete Block Design need not be described in detail. If$,$ however, the methodology involves procedures that are new or not previously used or described, then details should be provided. In the case of a survey, the complete questionnaire to be used should be appended.

Treatment Design: This applies to studies that require the use of specific experimental treatments. These should be described in full detail. Once a treatment number is assigned to a particular treatment it cannot be changed. Sometimes, it may be useful to add the proposed field layout but it should be noted that the need may arise to change the layout depending on specific field conditions.

Experimental Management: The procedures to be employed are outlined here. It is important to show in sequential order, how the study will be carried out. Thus, for a trial in which a particular crop will be planted, it would be necessary to start with the acquisition of the planting material and follow through with activities such as field preparation, crop establishment, fertilizer application, pest and disease control, field observations and harvesting. It must, however, be understood that this plan only serves as a guide and may be changed during the conduct of the trial in the event that unexpected events occur.

Parameters of Interest: Care should be taken to refer to the specific objectives and to ensure that those observations$/$measurements to be taken are inn consort with those stated objectives. In other words, the experimental data collected must provide answers for the research questions asked.

Statistical Analysis: While it common practice to mention the Statistical Programme that will be used to analyze the data it is also important to state the specific procedures and tests that will be used. Thus, it is necessary to determine whether ANOVA will be used and which significance tests will be used.
