Objectives
Design a synchronized traffic light control system that minimizes traffic congestion in the adjacent blocks.
Introduction
It is well known among GSU students and staff that the Tdeck on Auburn Ave. causes severe traffic congestion during the morning rush hours. While it may not be easy to speed up the gate intake of the Tdeck itself, an optimized traffic control mechanism will alleviate the traffic congestion nearby to a certain degree. In this lab, each group is tasked with proposing a traffic light control strategy that minimizes traffic congestion in the adjacent blocks and then
Given:
Auburn Ave is a twoway street. Peachtree Center Ave and Courtland Ave are oneway streets.
Incoming traffic flow speed is marked near each arrow that indicates the traffic flow directi The pink arrow indicates traffic to the Tdeck, and the blue arrow indicates bypassing
traffic.
Each car will take at least ft of space to ensure safety.
If cars are queueing at the traffic lights, it will take each car seconds to pass the
intersection if there is space for the car on the street segment the vehicle is going to
If the queue at the intersection exceeds the length of the road segment, the cars will
back up at the street segment of the incoming traffic. For example, if Auburn Ave
between Courtland St and Peachtree Center Ave is full of vehicles going from east to
west, they will start backing up at the right turning lane of Courtland St
Design Requirements:
No collision
Twoway streets require a separate leftturning period. No left and straight
concurrently
Cars from any incoming directions should not wait at the traffic light for more than
minutes.
Tasks
Create a finite state machine diagram
Convert the FSM to state transition table
Simplify the state transition table using Karnaugh maps
