Observe a real process which may need to be improved The process cannot be theoretical and cannot be fictional data Collect preliminary data of your chosen process Create a value stream map $($VSM$)$ for the current state of the process on a letter$-$size paper, including the necessary data collection $($no need to be comprehensive$)$ On the current state VSM$,$ identify the improvement opportunities Can be hand$-$drawn or use a computer software, but make sure your handwriting can be clearly understood by the grader Past examples: Starbucks, Dominos Pizza, donut shop, flower shop, restaurants, bus schedule, car wash, etc. Some will be selected as team projects What to submit: one page of your VSM and one page report of necessary descriptions and identified improvement opportunities from the VSM
