Often a senior manager will read a book and adopt half of the recommendations. This can occur
Question:
Often a senior manager will read a book and adopt half of the recommendations. This can occur if you don't read to the end. For example, Chris Anderson wrote about the concept of the Long Tail, and explained how the Internet made the concepts of shelf space irrelevant. Companies can now offer many more choices than they could in the past as we can move to electronic delivery in many cases. This applies to Netflix and iTunes well. Anderson goes on to say that if we offer too many choices, consumers suffer analysis paralysis and consume less because they do not know what to choose. I had a manager that wanted to offer an unlimited array of products but had not read the second part of the book. The results were disastrous and in line with Anderson's predictions.
In your experience what percentage of managers read the whole book?
