Often in interviews we are asked questions about key attributes that we note on our resumes (e.g. leadership, problem-solving, creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, interpersonal communication). In this discussion, assume you are asked to tell a story about a time you displayed one of those attributes. Your post should identify what resume attribute you are addressing and the story to go along with it.
For example:
Problem-Solving
I was working in catering and we had an enormous event that evening for 5,000 guests. It was a "James Bond Martini" event where complete with black-tie dress code and casino games. We had ordered 5,000 martini glasses from a supplier (a new supplier that we had never used before). The booking time-frame was short (we booked it one week before it was scheduled to happen). Our new supplier promised delivery of the 5,000 martini glasses by the end of business the day before the event. The day of the event arrived and we were still waiting on the martini glasses. We contacted the supplier who promised they would be delivered by noon. This would be fine since the event started at 6 p.m. At noon, we still had no martini glasses and our sales rep. basically told us that we were not going to get them. At this point we were looking pretty bad since we had less than 100 martini glasses for a "James Bond" party. The first thing I did was call our normal supplier who came through for us within an hour with 4,000 martini glasses. Were were still close to 1,000 short. I thought local hotels and restaurants might have some they would be willing to lend or rent to us. I called the largest hotels first and was able to get another 800. After that, I called the four and five star restaurants that had bars. They were able to get the the last 200 that I was looking for. The best part was that the other hotels and restaurants simply let us borrow the glasses and it ended up saving us money too. The event was a success and the customer never knew how close we came to dropping the ball on his event.
You must make one initial post (similar to what you see above) and one response post to a classmate with ideas to make the story "pop" a little more, or ideas to incorporate other resume attributes on that story (for example, the story above also shows good financial stewardship).
