On March $19,1946,$ the law known as the Loi de la d$$partementalisation passed in France, which elevated certain former French colonies to the status of departement $/$ region. In addition, the law also granted French citizen status to the peoples of all the following $($former$)$ French colonies except which later became part of a French Overseas Collective.
