I think that action research would be beneficial to use in exploring this problem, as I am interested in how it is affecting the student's academics, the classroom climate when a student walks in late, the total amount of time missed, and ways that can be used to make up for the missed time. If students are consistently coming in late and are missing the first hour of the school day, they could potentially miss the phonics time block each day. This would mean that they are not gaining any phonics background and this is a critical part of building foundational skills for elementary students.
