Question:
one of my favorite motivational theories is the Motivation-Hygiene Theory developed by Frederick Herzberg. The theory assesses intrinsic and extrinsic factors as well as job satisfaction, and states that extrinsic factors satisfy but do not motivate.
Questions -
- Are you motivated to perform at greater levels by health insurance, year-end bonus, and retirement options, such as a 401K?
- If yes do you think about these compensation elements while performing your work on a regular basis?
- If no, then are compensation elements more geared to ensure employees are satisfied, thus reducing attrition versus motivating employees to perform better?
For insight into how best to answer these questions, why not hear a lecture from Frederick Herzberg himself. Although he passed away a number of years ago, we can still listen to him speak via a recorded session on YouTube.
Watch the several minute video, and then answer the questions above, as well as any added comments on what you learned from watching the videoclip.
