In an external conflict, a character struggles against an outside force, such as society, nature, or another character. An opposing feelings, beliefs, needs, or desires. Conflict drives the plot of most stories. Its internal conflict takes place in the mind of the character as he or she grapples with solution usually occurs near the end of the story, in the resolution.
