balance costs with revenue maximizing net

operating profits whilst creating the highest

level of efficiency.

Operations management is also concerned

with systems and processes that converts

materials and labour into goods and services

as efficiently as possible.

This was achieved through adding value to

the operations function. Operations

management people are involved in product

and service design, process selection,

selection and management of technology,

design of work systems, location planning,

facilities planning, and quality improvement

of the organization$$s products or services. The

operations function includes many interrelated

activities, such as forecasting, capacity

planning, scheduling, managing inventories,

assuring quality, motivating employees,

deciding where to locate facilities, and more.

THE TASK

Amazon in one of its expansion plans is to locate a fulfillment facility in Southeast

Asia specifically in Malaysia to capture the SEA and Asia market.

Amazon in choosing the locations for its warehouses or fulfillment centers goes

through a strategic process that considers several factors. These factors include

proximity to customers, transportation infrastructure, workforce availability,

supplier access, real estate cost, and market demand.

Amazon has commissioned a viability study to be conducted to ascertain the success

of this project. The project team leader of the commissioned company has nominated

YOU to lead the FEASIBILITY STUDY.
