Optimizing the space consumed by goods in delivery HTVs
Bazaar is a B2B e-commerce platform, which has a vision to digitize the entire retail ecosystem in Pakistan.
While doing B2B e-commerce, Bazaar is managing warehouses and deliveries by itself. As the audience of the deliveries are small and medium sized retailers and businesses, the volume and weight of the goods in each order is quite large. As a result, heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) like trucks, shahzores, etc. are frequently used for deliveries, where each HTV can have multiple orders belonging to a delivery route.
Many times it happens that the capacity of these vehicles are underutilized as it is difficult to determine the optimal utilization of HTVs manually. At times 15% capacity of the vehicle remains un-utilized, some times less than that, some times more than that, which results in extra costs per delivery route.
In a day, there are multiple dispatches of deliveries using HTV on various delivery routes to fulfill all the orders on a particular day.
Can you propose a solution or a robust alogrithm (and state why and how it could be helpful) for this problem such that
1. The capacity in each vehicle is maximum utilized
2. The cost of all the order deliveries in a day are minimized
3. Maximum number of orders are fulfilled in that day from the total orders
