oral research assignment
Assignment Background This individual oral presentation is worth 10% of your course grade (100 points). For the assignment, you will make a 5-minute oral presentation followed by a few minutes of Q and A. You will use no visual aids. The Scenario You work for BMW - North America (BMW-NA). BMW-NA prides itself on a strong commitment to social responsibility and charitable giving, and is frequently cited by Forbes and others as a company that demonstrate a strong commitment to giving. BMW-NA management has asked you to research and present recommendations about its charitable giving. For this assignment, we'll assume that BMW-NA has decided to select one charitable organization per year to receive a major, signature grant of $500,000. While they'll continue to give to lots of groups, BMW-NA wants to make a particularly big impact for one group each year. BMW-NA has asked you to identify one possible charity to receive the $500,000 donation in 2022. The management team will listen to your recommendation as well as the recommendations of other staff members and select one signature 2022 charity. This presentation is your chance to sell your recommendation to the management team. In order to make a convincing argument, you will need to research your audience (BMW-NA management), BMW's corporate values, past giving and the work of many charities. Your research-based presentation should provide the following: 1. Background on a need and how the charitable organization you selected meets the need effectively, 2. Information on how the charity can enhance BMW-NA's image including how it fits with their customer base, image, and corporate values; 3. Specific information about how the selected group will spend the $500,000 grant; Ind 4. Evidence from an outside charity ratings group of how the charity you selected demonstrates effectiveness and worthiness. The presentation will be set up as a Zoom meeting and directed discussion with you and the management team. You'll start out by making your 5-minute pitch, and then you'll field questions for a couple of minutes. Your fellow students will assume the roles of BMW-NA management and will ask the questions. Your presentation should be professional and take into consideration the customers, goals, and corporate culture of BMW-NA. Your attire should be business casual and your remarks should be well researched and practiced. Grading Your grade will be based entirely on the written document and the content (not the delivery style) of your oral presentation. I will give you live feedback and coaching on your speaking skills and style, but the recorded grade will be based on the quality of your written message (research, audience appeal, tone and word choices, and data) rather than style. The success of this presentation is dependent in large part on your understanding of BMW-NA and the charity you select, and on the quality of your research. While your presentation style is important, I'm more interested that you make a compelling case, choose the right words and data for your audience, make strong arguments, and present a compelling narrative. You will write out your entire presentation and turn it in the day you present
