You are to identify what your career or further academic aspiration is, upon graduating from this program. This will become your over-arching goal. You are then to build out 5 sub-goals that will help you achieve this main goal and put them into action over the course of this semester. You are to track your progress along the way and have a peer help provide you feedback on how you're progressing. You will use theories from the text to help in motivating yourself to achieve these goals, The Assignment:733 potential (worth 15% of total grade) Task Examples/Explanations Length Evaluation 1. Identify your over- arching career- related or further academic goal that you would like to achieve by graduation of this program (this will become your main goal) Example: Obtain role at company by graduation. OR Be accepted into ___ program for masters/PhD degree by date, One Sentence 3 marks In order to obtain 3 full marks for this section, the over-arching goal must be SMART or SMARTER 2. Identify which 'needs theory this main goal adheres to and why le. Is the goal motivated by Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs? OR The Four-Drive Theory? And explain why 500 words or less 5 marks Marks will be given based on the relevancy of the goal to the theory and how well the student can explain it's relatability and why they have chosen this theory as the basis of their overarching goal. 3. Identify 5 sub-goals that will help you achieve your main goal in #1 above and explain how they are SMART. *You must be able to start at least 2 of these goals this semester) Each sub-goal should be SMART or SMARTER (specific, measurable, attainable, Results Oriented, and Time Bound, Exciting and Reviewed) or. Clearly identify how each goal adheres to being SMART Example: Apply for an Internship paying $x this semester, OR Volunteer for extra credits to work toward a master's degree this semester OR achieving certain grades in certain courses in order to apply for a post-graduate program. You may use a table to identify the goals and how they are SMART 10 marks (2 per goal and how you are able to identify how SMART or SMARTER they are they are). Students may use a table to outline each goal and how SMART they are 4. Identify how each sub- goal, identified in #3, rates on expectancy theory Create a table similar to Exhibit 5.4 in the text (p.123)for each sub-goal This should just be a table of ratings for each goal. 5 marks 1 mark per goal and the completion of the expectancy theory table 5. Track your progress on each sub-goal throughout the semester Keep point form notes on how you are tracking. You do not need to hand in your notes, but will be used for your final summary in #7 below N/A 6. Identify a peer in the course and meet with them (virtually) to discuss your goals and how you are progressing. Your peer is to provide feedback on how they believe you can improve or work towards your goals. Recount the feedback from your peer in the report and provide adjustments if needed on any goals. This is part of the Goal Setting and Feedback section of Chapter 5 500 words or less 5 marks Full marks will be given to students who are able to articulate the feedback from their peer and how they were able to course correct' and adjust if needed. If goal adjustment is not required, marks will be determined based on the recounting of the feedback and why they do not need any adjustment. 7. Evaluate your progress on each of the goals and how you're progressing and provide a summary of where you are at Identify what motivational theories you used throughout the semester to help you stay motivated to achieve these goals, and what theories you will continue to use over the course of your program to help you stay on track.
