Company had trained professional engineers, trained diploma holders and a number of unskilled laborers in their unit. Mr.Sam is the Supervisor of 50 unskilled workers belongs to unit 1 of manufacturing unit. To reduce the costs, the management has decided to install mechanized materials handling equipment in the unit. Prior to this, mostly the materials handling was done by unskilled laborers. Since the workers lacked training and knowledge about productivity and cost reduction effects of this equipment, the supervisor had to struggle a lot to make them aware about the new system. Initially they had a lot of fears about the new plan. Mr. Sam was successful in getting their support and involvement in introducing the plan. Ultimately, the new equipment was installed with the active cooperation of the workers. Management has appreciated Mr.Sam for his skill in introducing the change without any serious objection from the laborers. A few months afterwards, Mr.Sam has been asked to install sophisticated quality control equipment among the group of technical workers. Since this group consisted of educated technical workers, mostly engineers and diploma holders, who are in a better position to understand the company's problems, he expected no serious opposition to the proposed change. Accordingly, he did not put much effort before introducing the new equipment as he had done earlier in the case of unskilled workers. Contrary to his expectations, this group resisted very strongly to the introduction of the new system citing various kind of objections until it was given up.
