According to Werthane's moral imagination, it allows creativity with which an individual is to develop alternative solutions. ( Werthane, 2008). One of the organizations that I worked with in the past was one of our local nursing homes in my hometown. Diversity plays a hugely important role in my facility. No one person is an exemplar of any cultural group. Each patient and nurse develop their own unique culture which affects how they think about health, illness, and health promotion.
Also, Cultural change has helped reduce staffing problems. A change in our leadership team has worked hard to help the facility achieve a good outcome for improvement and the quality of care provided. Diversity also plays a big role as well. One way it fosters trust and communication between our employees and residents, it empowers each of us to treat patients/residents with awareness of how their experiences impact their feelings and attitudes about their own health and well-being.
Werthane explains that moral imagination goes hand in hand with practical reasoning which allows managers to be able to make decisions in values, morals, and principles (Werthane, 2008). Some of the ways that the organization can improve on mental models are through having better communication, better leadership and management skills, and having a better attitude when it comes to your patients and coworkers. Just as leadership, behaviors help to provide and sustain supportive environments making it easier for managers and employers to be able to accept learning practices more efficiently (Garvin, Edmonson, & Gino, 2019).
My Case Study:
The selected organization is Nestle Company. Nestle is one of the largest food and beverage companies in the world. The company uses the power of food to influence people's lives. In this regard, it provides good food to delight and nourish the senses. It has a variety of brands such as local favorites and global icons offered tocustomers for goal achievement.
One of the issues the organization should improve with respect to moral imagination is the issue of child labor. In this regard, the organization uses child labor for harvesting and supply of Cocoa in West Africa. In this regard, the organization cannot envision the impact of using child labor in harming children by subjecting them to work in Cocoa plantations.The organization can improve this by hiring people of the right age to enhance Cocoa picking.
Werhane's moral imagination framework can be applied to enhance positive social change as it determines moral managers as those who think proactively to maximize profits (Werhane, P. H., 2008). Besides, the moral imagination creates positive social change by highlighting differences between moral and immoral managers. Werhane framework of moral imagination also enhances positive social change in the organization and its stakeholders. In this case, the philosophy explains wrongdoing and imaginative rights to the stakeholders. As such, the framework argues that unethical practices occur due to unethical behavior which occurs due to the artificial integration of creativity and ethicality (Godwin, L. N., 2015).
Organizations use mental models by applying them to executives and managers since they impact information and how the juniors react to the same. In this case, mental models should be understood by business leaders to unveil the reasons behind their thinking in a particular way (Werhane, P. H., 2019). Besides, the models determine why managers react and behave in ways specific to the situations.
Some of the issues that organizations can improve according to the mental models are enhancing information sharing and creating a safe environment for the organization (Bertolotti, T., 2015).Besides, there is a need to drive collaboration and teamwork using the reflective framework. Every leader should share their mental models. Leaders should also share their mental models for easy decision-making.
