Our objective is to explore The Central Limit Theorem (CLT) and use in application. This activity may take time, but is worth pursuing, as CLT is fundamental to all future work.

(1) Understanding Central Limit Theorem. This intuitive video assumes knowledge of sampling distribution. https://youtu.be/YAlJCEDH2uY

(2) Hands on experience. Open Simulation applet. First review instructions, prior to initiating the experiment. Here is the process.

  • Click on the applet and select a probability density distribution. The shape of the selected distribution will appear.
  • Click on each of the possible number of times samples can be drawn from the selected distribution. Observe the shape of the sampling distribution. As you observe, keep in mind the claims of CLT.
  • Continue experiments working with all given distributions and possible number of samples.
  • Draw your own skewed or bimodal shape distribution. Observe how the shape changes with the increase sample size.
  • Repeat the experiment as often as need, to connect the visuals observations to the formulas given by Central Limit Theorem.

(3) Check your understanding (5 pts). CLT is a graded video. As you view, periodically, a question appears. You must answer the question before you can proceed. Once you completed the video and answered all the questions, your earned score is recorded in the gradebook. One attempt is allowed. For best results, first study posted Central Limit Theorem notes and videos. Review examples in your text.
