Essay Assignment #1 (POLS 219) For this assignment, you are asked to pick and write a short essay about one of the following 3 questions/themes, all of which are connected with the central questions posed in this course. This is a research assignment, which means that you are expected to consult outside sources for your papers. You should consult at least 4 external sources, but you may also use and rely on the course readings (please note that all sources, including course readings, should be cited properly). Your essays should be 4-6 pages in length, double spaced, in Times New Roman font, and should include both in-text citations and a bibliography. Please feel free to use whatever citation style you are most comfortable with for this assignment. This assignment is due at the end of the day (11:59 PM) on Wednesday February 26. Essay Questions 1) Is globalization, overall, a desirable or an unwelcome development? In answering this question, you should consider what both the proponents and critics of globalization argue and pick a side in the debate. Your answer should demonstrate why, ultimately, one side is more correct than the other. 2) Discuss and explain one of the following dimensions of globalization: cultural, economic, or political. In your essay, you should address the following two questions: What are some of the manifestations of this specific aspect of globalization? How is it connected to other aspects of globalization? 3) What is new and unique about the phenomenon known as "globalization"? How does it differ from previous, and potentially similar, historical and political processes?
