Paper #1 Assignment

Our first paper will involve you doing some sleuth work of your own to find a movie (it CAN be a made for TV movie) adaptation of one of the works we've read during the first four weeks of class. You're then going to be comparing it to the original in a very specific way. Here are the step-by-step instructions.

1. Select either "Murders in the Rue Morgue," "A Study in Scarlet," "The Sign of Four," "Hound of the Baskervilles," orThe Thin Man.
2. Identify one scene you felt was a high point of the story and which you feel inspired to analyze and discuss.
3. Post your choice of text and the scene in the "Submit Scene Choice" assignment in the Week 4 folder. Tell me what you think makes this scene important.
4. Post a one paragraph answer to the following question in the "Submit Thesis Draft" in the Week 5 folder: When you compare the movie version of your selected work and scene with the original, what similarities and differences did you observe, and what are at least two ways the changes affect the impact of your chosen scene?
5. This will become your thesis statement, which you'll then write for. Please include seven hundred fifty words.
