Overview:
The main assignment for this course is the development and written submission of a production
and operations management plan. As a group of 2 or 3managers, you will design a template
for the production and operations management of a consumer or B2B product or service that
MUST be approved by the instructor.
(Important Note: If it is a service, it must involve the use of products in delivering the service.)
The project will follow the course schedule and each topic covered will be a component within
your project:
Following the template, you will describe, as completely as possible, all of the components
required. It is expected that you will work on your project on a weekly basis based on what we
cover in class. There are two parts (submissions) to the project.
You will be required to conduct research on your product. Please use as much primary and
secondary data as possible. The greater the amount of information and data you submit, the
better your grade. You are being evaluated on your creativity and ingenuity as well as your
expertise. Do NOT limit your sources to the textbook. However, remember that you must
rationalize whatever decisions your team makes.
Instructions:
1. Read the chapters in the text. The text does a good job of reviewing the key theoretical
concepts along the way to provide you with tools to guide you in developing your plan.
2. Ask questions. If you are having difficulty with a concept or with a certain aspect of the
project, please ask questions.
3. Work with your team members and attend all team meetings. Do your work in a timely way
and dont wait until the last minute.
Project Outline & Submission Requirements
The style of your submission is up to you, as long as the required content is covered, and the final
document is easy to follow. Please feel free to be creative and use whatever format is most
inspiring to you.
Submissions must be submitted by one group member only to the Blackboard drop box. Late
submissions will not be accepted.
Each report should be considered a detailed report to the senior management team that requires
approval. Justification of the product or service viability and its method of production should be
the key objectives of the final report.
Important Note:
This is one big project, split into 2 sections. Therefore, the decisions you make at the beginning
of your project in your first submission, may have implications on the second half of your
project. It will be important to refer back to ensure consistency throughout your final submission.
