PART 2

A clear introductory paragraph, body paragraphs, and conclusion paragraph Essay must respond to the entire prompt

Include a clear thesis statement (the overall argument summed up into a sentence as discussed in course lecture/s) Intentional organization (complete with sign-posts as discussed in course lecture/s) *This is based on some personal contexts so you are welcome to reference yourself for this essay. For instance, "I'm going to have to decide if I want to ____ ." Or, "Something that is very important to me is ___ and I'll need to give up some of my time to get that." *This is not a political speech, a sales pitch, or a religious sermon so you are NOT going to speak at the audience directly with words like 'you,' 'us,' 'we,' etc.. For instance, "When you have to decide on something important, you should take time to think it over." <-- who, me? Nope. Revise those types of sentences so they don't speak at the audience. Here's an example: "When there is something important to decide, it's smart to take time to think it over." <-- much better! Another example, "We don't usually like having to give up our personal time to get ahead, but sometimes we don't have a choice." <-- you and I? No. Here's how to revise that: "Many people don't usually like having to give up their personal time to get ahead, but sometimes there is no choice." You will use NO outside sources at all. We will talk about integrating outside sources when we get to Unit 2. But, until then, they are NOT ALLOWED. Right now, I just want to know what YOU have to say and no one else.

PROMPT: For this essay I want you to consider a decision that you have on the horizon. You can make something up of course. To keep it simple, let's just focus on how that decision impacts your time (something you all have and value in different ways). The horizon I choose for this promt is I've made poor decisions about my health throughout my life, such as not exercising and eating the incorrect foods. This resulted from the stress of having a heavy task all at once, making me feel like I didn't have time for self-care. However, as time passed and I approached my senior year of high school, I began to understand that if I put my attention on maintaining my physical and mental health, all of the strain and stress I was under might be relieved. I saw a significant improvement in both my physical and mental health as I began to include healthy meals and exercise into my daily routine. This further allowed me to be more optimistic and motivated in my life. So please write the essay around this topic.

Describe the situation to give me a bit of context Consider the opportunity costs of that decision (refer back to the course lecture/s and materials) Make sure to discuss the short-term costs (what you are giving up now?) Consider the long-term implications as well (gotta look to the future for this one). So, what is the longer-term impact that this decision may have on your future/future choices? What are the potential unintended consequences of this decision? You'll have to make some assumptions here.
