Part 1: IT: Evolution and Enabling Characteristics

1. Define the three stages in IT evolution map; and, describe each stage from the following three perspectives: theme, core technology related and major applications.(Be specific in core technology and applications.)

2. Point of Sales (POS) system is widely adopted system in retail industry such as convenience store network. State which of Davenports nine enabling characteristics is applied; and, describe principles in utilizing POS system in logistics management. (With appropriate example as specific as possible.)

3. Knowledge Management System (KMS) is one of applications adopting Intellectual enabling characteristic. Describe KMS in relation to knowledge lifecycle; and, discuss about pros and cons of KMS. (Clearly describe KMS according to each steps in knowledge lifecycle.)

Part 2: Logistics Information System (LIS) and Domains

1. Define the three domains or area composing LIS; and, describe major constructs in each area to constitute LIS. (Brief explanations with appropriate examples.)

2. Spores Maritime Information System (MAIN) is the best example of LIS nationwide including public area and SOC. Describe MAIN system in terms of major constructs and links among them including the information flow on each arc. (Be specific explanation for the constructs and information flow among them.)

Part 3: Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) and System Integration

1. It is generally agreed about three dimensions of qualifications for ERP system: application, data and technical architecture. Discuss in more detail about the qualifications for each dimension. (Be specific for explanation using SAP R/3 as example.)

2. Explain how SD module is interfacing with other modules limiting MM and FI modules when we are doing Order Processing (e.g., credit check and ATP), and Billing processes. (Be specific about the interface in SAP R/3.)

3. There are two competing approaches in company-to-company integration: web-based and Electronic Data Interface (EDI). Describe each approach; and discuss pros and cons followed by environment where each approach is preferred. (Be specific about the preferred environments for each with example as possible.)
