Part $3$: Design of Beam$-$elements

The UC $20320346$ rafter shown in Figure $4$ is fully fixed in all directions between heavy

concrete columns. The ULS bending moment has been calculated as shown, with the diagram

being drawn on the tension face. Grade S$355$JR steelwork is used. Knee braces are installed at B

& E$.$ Use the material properties from Part $1$ and $2$ of this project where needed.

$3\mathrm{.}1.$ Determine whether the bending resistance of the section is sufficient.

$3\mathrm{.}2.$ Accept that now: $($i$)$ The knee braces are removed, and $($ii$)$ That only partial restraint against

lateral bending is provided at the supports. Determine if the UC $20320346$ beam is strong

enough in bending?
