Part A Set Assignment Brief

You are a design engineer and have been tasked with the redesign of a wall$-$mounted bicycle storage bracket. The wall$-$mounted bicycle storage bracket is used for a single bicycle.

You will research the design and manufacturing requirements that are relevant to wallmounted bicycle storage brackets and their use. To further your understanding, you should also consider the designs of existing types of bicycle including their frames.

the manufacturing processes and technologies that are being used and possible alternatives

the health and safety requirements for the product and manufacturing processes

environmental considerations including sustainability

material requirements and suitable material properties

any other relevant factors, such as designing out health and safety risks to the user.

In Part B you will be given further information on the specific issues with the wall$-$mounted bicycle storage bracket that will allow you to redesign the wall$-$mounted bicycle storage bracket and evaluate your solution against the specific issues. Therefore, you should not undertake any design work during Part A $($the research stage$).$

Part A Set Assignment Information

The existing product is a wall$-$mounted bicycle storage bracket that is used to store a bicycle when not in use.

The existing wall$-$mounted bicycle storage bracket is made of low carbon steel tube, cut, welded and spray painted to make a simple shape. This is then attached to a wall in a garage or home to store a single bicycle off the floor.

The wall$-$mounted bicycle storage brackets will be manufactured in batches of $1000.$
