In the apology absent condition, the testimony is the same, but excludes the sentence "I am really sorry that this incident happened, and I would give anything to have had things work out differently." The dependent variables remain the same, though we add a new manipulation check question that asks participants to recall whether the participant apologized ("Did the defendant apologize?
