PED 622: Statistical Applications

Final Project

Students are expected to use real data to complete this project. Appropriate data is readily available online through various sources. Do not over think this. Make it easy on yourself. You may also use data you already have in your possession or collect new data if you wish. The presentation should clearly identify the research question(s), source of data, choice of analysis, rationale for analysis, and discussion of results. It is not appropriate to use data that has already been analyzed. This project is expected to be the original work of the student.

Guidelines:

1. Research question

a. Devise a research question that can be answered with data that has already been collected and is readily available (KISS).

b. Clearly state the question and how it can be analyzed in a way that is relevant to this class.

2. Data

a Appropriate sources may include, but are not limited to:

i. Internet- There's lots out there.

iii. Government or agency reports (ex: CDC or DHS)

v. Personal collection- if you really want to

3. Power Point Presentation- This not limited to 4 slides. These are just the sections that need to be covered.

i. Title Slide

iii. Introduction:

1. Brief background literature with citations

2. Your research question, hypotheses, and purpose/importance of the study.

iv. Methods, with the necessary subsections:

1. Participants

2. Procedure

3. Statistical analysis and rationale

v. Results & Discussion

1. What were the results of the analysis?

2. Results tables

3. What do you results mean and how can you use them?

vii. References

xii. Appendices if needed

I am very flexible with this please take your time. Even a day is okay.
