Peer Response (first peer response due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday; second peer response due by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday)
Choose the paragraph posted by one of your peers, and try to identify the use of at least two coherence tools. Mention any ideas you have for improved coherence in the paragraph
First peer:
DUI is one of the most pressing problems that threaten lives on the roads every day. Even if the impregnated women are not part of the military, its personnel are included among the vulnerable groups, and the problem carries its own set of complications: increased stress levels, deployment-related pressure, and easy access to alcohol. As much as the military has upheld discipline and accountability in the force, cases of DUI are still a tender ground. Although some of these violations pose a danger to the lives of service members, all are detrimental and affect the military's operational readiness. The United States government should consider DUIs more severe, especially concerning military members, by establishing programs, educating the members, and offering severe penalties in situations of DUIs.
Second peer:
Women earn, on average, significantly less than men, with disparities often masked by factors such as occupational segregation, caregiving responsibilities, and systemic biases. The financial consequences of the gender pay gap are profound, diminishing women's lifetime earnings, retirement savings, and investment potential. For example, a woman earning 84% of what a man earns might miss hundreds of thousands of dollars over her lifetime. According to Gaskill, (2024) "Maryland women of color make over $1 million less over the course of their careers when compared to white, non-Hispanic men, a report released Tuesday by the Maryland Department of Labor states" (para. 1). For Black women this inequity is even greater, when compared to White, non-Hispanic men (George et al., 2024). Research shows that women of color experience the gender pay gap more severely than White women. For example, Black women earn about 64 cents for every dollar earned by White men, while Latina women earn even less (roughly 57 cents per dollar) (Hegewisch et al., 2024).
