Personal Philosophy (aka Mission Statement): This section will provide inner insights about you. Explain your values and convictions, or the "rules" by which you live your life?
2. Demographic Information: This section includes the following: full name, age, race, and place/role in family, job title and career field, economic status, religion and anything else that describes you. In addition, hobbies, special interests, or talents that may be relevant to this section. All of the above begins to describe your identity. Lastly, state and explain anything that you may change about yourself as well.
3. Personal, academic, and career goals: List at least two goals for each. Explain when these goals were established, what inspired, and what support systems you may have for each. Chapter 10 explains how psychologists define motivation and perspectives to view motivated behavior, indicate how you demonstrate or will utilize motivation to obtain your goals.
4. Strengths/Weaknesses: Discuss your strengths and weaknesses in relation to your personal life and current job position (if applicable). What attempts have you made to strengthen your weaknesses and where do you use your strengths? If a Social-cognitive psychologist assessed your behavior in situations, what would be revealed? What are your strengths or weaknesses in dealing with stressful, happy, scary, bullying, etc. situations?
5. Further Self-Exploration: Please describe: a) what do others know about you; b) what are some that things people do not know about you and why; c) how would close friends and family members describe you; d) how would your supervisor and coworkers describe you; e) how are these descriptions of you different or similar to your description of yourself? Lastly, explain how conducting exploratory research about yourself provided a better understanding about you. Note, students may also refer to the “Big Five” Personality Factor to provide insight about their personalities.
6. Family History: Describe your family values, structure, patterns of behaviors or traditions (i.e. divorce, drugs, career, education, etc.). What things have influenced the person you are today? Who has been the key person in your family that has influenced you the most? Note: Chapter 4 focuses on the development through life span thus, you may want to indicate how your peers, parents, relatives may have influenced your development as a child, adolescent, or adult. Lastly, explain the impact of gender roles and gender typing your family or society influenced your gender development.
7. Conclusion: In this final section, students will reflect and summarize how psychology and the personal profile assignment provided a better understanding and insight about themselves.
