Physics $360-$ Intro Skills Review

Objective:

We will learn some of the analysis techniques used often this semester. This will save you a lot of time in future weeks. We will not yet use any data from the natural world.

Procedure:

Remember that you may work in lab groups! See course orientation and Canvas menu item "Labs" $($Intro tab$)$ for more details.

Part $1$: Excel formulas & graphing

This exercise is a structured activity to take you through most of the "How to Use Excel" reference document provided in Canvas.

Note: We will not address units until part $2$ today, so for part $1$ just include the marker $"[$units$]"$ where you would normally indicate a specific unit $($such as $[$m$],[$m$/$s$],$ etc...$)$

$1.)$ For the function $y=2x^2+3$

i$.)$ In Excel, first create an $"x"$ column $($with appropriate header$)$ where $x$ values range from $0$ to $30$ in $0\mathrm{.}5$ increments. There is no need to hand type $0,0\mathrm{.}5,1$dots$30$ all by hand, which would take a while. Instead, use the following trick: type in the first two values, highlight both cells, put your cursor in the lower right corner until it turns color
