Research to find out what is going on in the conversation(s)  related to this controversy.  Describe and map these positions in  relation to each other.  Who are the  parties involved?  What brought them to  the table?  What do they have to  say?  What do they have to say to each other?  What do they hope to accomplish?  What rhetorical strategies do they utilize to  this end?  Et cetera!.  A good  controversy map lays out the major positions, shows how they relate to each  other, and clearly demonstrates where you got each piece of information.
