Planning a wedding is a long and ongoing process. By using what we learn in class to manage the project, schedule many important factors in advance and create the correct documentation I will be able to set myself up for success.
Coming up with duration estimates for our project will utilize a combination of these duration estimation methods for our wedding. When it comes to vendors for instance, my fiance comes from a family of wedding photographers, and their expert judgment will be appreciated when seeking out and booking vendors such as photographers. They can provide a realistic timeline and challenges that may be faced when planning the wedding, given their extensive experience within the wedding industry.
We will also use a bottom-up approach in the planning of the wedding by breaking the wedding as a whole into smaller tasks that are easier to estimate the duration of. For instance, tasks like choosing a caterer, sending out invitations, and selecting a venue can be broken down and estimated individually to help determine the most accurate overall timeline. These main smaller tasks can be seen in the objectives above.
With such uncertainty with weddings, it will also be good to use the Three Points / PERT method in order to determine the best and worst case scenarios for each of the broken down steps in the bottom-up approach. By estimating each part of the project using the PERT method, it will account for any uncertainty that may arise and provide an expected range of realistic durations. This will help determine the overall duration and ensure the wedding remains on schedule for April 2026.
