Q1):
You have been charged with participating on a cross disciplinary, self-managed team. Your team was tasked to review the product design of the new Vitamix mixer and assess the market for new features. During one of the meetings, as Ahmed was speaking, Sherry commented that she wished he would stop mumbling. Sherry, the one who tends to speak the most, was with the organization the longest and was an important member of the team, both in the skill set she had and because of her organizational position. Ahmed, one of the key engineers on the team, and one who tends to be silent in the meetings, was an Indian-American with a strong accent. As far as you could tell, Ahmeds strong accent appeared to be perceived by Sherry as mumbling. Half way through the meeting, Ahmed asked to suggest an idea. As he was speaking, Sherry pushed forward in her chair and once again said, I wish he would stop mumbling. Calling Ahmed out like this, among the team members, was not right, let alone perhaps other ethical concerns. You are contemplating confronting Sherry on her behavior.
Part A: In contemplating which conflict management style to utilize, list and describe the pros and cons of each conflict management style as they relate to the situation.
Part B: Describe, in detail, how you will manage this situation both with a) Sherry and b) Ahmed. Be sure to indicate the communication channel (and whether or not you are approaching the situation/s individually or in a group), the type and amount of information included, and the positioning of the information, including whether you will use a direct or an indirect strategy, for each audience. Provide a brief outline of what would be covered in what order and/or provide a script for how you would approach each audience.
