Do a trade-off study for the following two scenarios when you havebeen given a limited capital budget of R200 million Scenario 1 Your mine has a total number of 100 auxiliary fans of single speed fans with each having a rating input power of 100kW and is considering purchasing new fleet of variable Fan Speed Drives(VFSD) at a cost of R2.5 million each (installation and electrical included). Given the shift configuration, production output, re-entry period the mine has to operate 40 fans at 100 percent, 25 at 50% and the balance at 25%. Usean average of cost of R1/KWH. What would be the annual cost savings of this scenario. Scenario 2 The mine is also contemplating to install solar energy plant ( solar farm) solely to runthe auxiliary fans during the day only (1.e no batteries for energy storage). What would be the feasible capacity of solar energy plant given the financial budget? And what would be the annual cost saving for this scenario
