The number one challenge for air and maritime shipping will always be fuel. The current global economics is increasingly putting pressure on the cost of fuel. With the tension amongst the developed nation, with Russia doing the " Special Operations", in Ukraine and holding neighboring European nations hostage, do their dependency on Russian oil and gasoline, are forcing many nations into tough choices.

Second most important is the security threat. There have been recent reports of Chinese Navy Vessels harassing cargo ship in shipping lanes, to piracy in some areas.

Another thing that paralyzes modes of transportation are tariffs and sanctions placed on companies by nations penalizing and preventing them from delivering products.

How can this issues I stated be mitigated? Well, trust within world leadership. The political jockeying has to end and assecions of sides must be made. International waters should be policed by INTERPOL, if the organization can be full trusted, so that piracy does not accrue. Many other things international relationships will be done to rectify what they world is experiencing.
