Your friends are convinced that the Hawks will win because they will have the home advantage. How do you respond when they ask you if you think the home ad-vantage will help the Hawks win? Explain your response, giving your reasoning, and consider whether the home advantage will be the same for both tennis and soccer.

CASE STUDY 2:

Overcoming Fear and Lack of Confidence Michael recently had hip re-placement surgery, and Tanisha, Michael's physical therapist,

is putting together his treatment plan. In her meeting with Michael, Tanisha learns that Mi-chael lacks confidence in his ability to recover his mobility and is scared of water. Despite this, Tanisha is convinced that the best treat-ment plan for Michael involves water therapy. Share with Tanisha a viable approach to get-ting Michael engaged in water therapy and having greater confidence in his ability to recover.

Social Support in the Training Room Assume you are an athletic trainer working with a col-legiate basketball player

recovering from recent knee surgery. This is her first week in the training room with you. She plans to be back in full practice and competi-tion when the league season begins, but she has four or five weeks of rehab before that. How could you provide tangible, informa-tional, and emotional support for this athlete in your training room? Give specific examples of each of the three types. Then, assume that she has made good progress and is near the end of her rehab. Give specific examples of how you would provide each of the three types of support considering that her needs may have changed.
