Exercise 13.10 Read the following letter and then answer the two questions that follow it. Dear Ms Whitney With reference to your telephone call of February 12 and your letter of February 19, which I have before me as I write. We read with interest and concern of your request for a refund of repair costs on your Tormon M605 inkjet printer. It is always a problem to us to know what to do when a major part fails shortly after the warranty period has expired. As you are no doubt well aware, the war. ranty for your printer expired last December 23 and, as you say, the paper feed mechanism did not fail until February 11. The manufacturer allows a three-week window beyond the warranty expiration date, but is adamant that no warranty work can be accepted beyond that 55 weeks after the original purchase date, and as you know your failure occurred at the 58th week. This of course clearly establishes the failure as occurring after the end of the warranty period. You do have a point when you say that the previous warranty work, carried out on your printer on November 22nd, should have some bearing on this request, because it corrected the problem you experienced with the malfunctioning inkjets. But, as you can see, my hands are tied, so I suggest you write directly to the manufacturer, Tormon Computer Accessories, 1516 Whitehead Place, Hamilton, Ontario. I wish I could be of more help to you. Regards Frederick Horton The questions: 1. Rewrite the letter so that it is more direct and to the point, yet still personal. 2. Write to Tormon Computer Accessories, requesting a refund of the repair costs
