Dear Hiring Manager:

I was very happy to read on your company website that one of ConAgra Foods commitments was to be Good for you, good for the community, and good for the planet. I was also impressed to discover in the Wall Street Journal that the active practice of this commitment led ConAgra to be added to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index of North America. As a junior studying Industrial Design and Design Management at Arizona State University, I am very concerned with the amount of waste produced from the packaging industry today. The fact that ConAgra has taken such an active stand on addressing this issue is impressive. Id like to work for ConAgra Foods as the Packaging Intern because I would like to be involved in the designing and engineering of new, sustainable, and cost-reduced product packaging.

To improve my skills in problem solving and time management of large-scale design projects, I have taken several courses within my program here at ASU. These include 31 credit hours in studio classes working both individually and in groups with hands-on projects. One of these courses focused specifically on package design. In addition, I have completed an Ecology of Design course, as well as 24 credit hours of various design management courses that have improved my understanding of business, communication, and sustainable design. I believe these courses can directly help me contribute to the important mission of ConAgra Foods.

I have always held at least a part-time job while earning my education. I have done everything from coaching soccer, to working in a restaurant, to planning and organizing weddings and banquets. I take pride in the fact that I am continuously trusted and have grown as a leader in the workplace. Because I value learning new skills through all my work, I would be excited to learn about the packaging industry through your outstanding internship.
