manage their business processes. To begin the process, they ordered requirements requirements col$-$

lection and systems analysis from an organization that offers IT analysis services. This process is now

complete and a formal report has been submitted to the organization. A brief outline of the report

contains the following requirements. This is only a brief summary of the organization. A fully func$-$

develop an E$-$R diagram to represent the conceptual model.

PMCO offers project management services. The clients are owners who are putting up projects.

The projects can be in a variety of areas, examples being building construction, power stations,

oil rigs, refineries, housing complexes, airports etc.

PMCO usually wins jobs either by participating in a bidding process or through a direct contact

by owners. In either case, a contract is executed for the project management services that PMCO

is expected to provide.

Each projects is identified by a unique number. All common attributes that are relevant to large

projects must be captured by the database.

After winning a project management contract, a project team is formed. A small group of persons

are assigned the responsibility of executing the job. This group is headed by a person and is

designated "Project Manager" of that project. These folks are skilled in project management

functions and are drawn from the project management department.

PMCO is organized into departments. Each department has a unique name, a unique number.

The department is managed by a "Department Manager."

PMCO is a nation$-$wide organization having offices in many locations of the country. A department

may be required to be present in multiple locations.

Employees are a backbone of PMCO. It hires persons skilled in a variety of competencies in order

to offer specialized services in the contracts it undertakes. All relevant details of employees are

important to PMCO and must be in the new database.

An employee can be assigned to only one department at any time.

A project also requires services from multiple departments other than the project management

department. At any time, one employee can only be assigned to one project. There is an internal

accounting mechanism whereby the department charges the project group for the number of hours

employees are assigned to a project.

PMCO also has a very employee friendly benefits program that includes several benefits for employ$-$

ees' families. Therefore, the database includes details of employees' dependent family members. Clearly mark$/$label:

Create the model in ERD$-$Plus. When done, save the diagram as an image in PNG format. Please

remember that the assignment focuses correctly modeling the required system, that is choosing correct

elements and labelling them as well as including all business components of the intended database

system are equally significant. Add comments and assumptions as necessary.

Make effective use of available space and do not leave much empty space. You may have to move

entities and relationship lines to optimize the space and improve clarity. Organize various objects in the

diagram so that it is easy to read. Avoid unnecessary clutter and crossings of relationship lines.

The quality of the ER model will be assessed on following metrics:

$1.$ Correctness of various elements of the model.

$2.$ Establishing logical relationships.

$3.$ Completeness of the model reflected by including all relevant attributes and entities. A good ERD

requires a logical and complete conceptualization and correct representation of entities, attributes,

relationship, cardinality constraints, and other important concepts. The model should include all

elements that are necessary but not include redundant entities, attributes, and relationships.
