Figure 1 shows part of the floor system of the private rooms in a multifamily residential building. The overall dimensions of the floor system plan are L1=30ft and L2=42ft. The floor consists of 6 in thick reinforced concrete slab resting on four steel floor beams AB,CD,EF and GH, which are supported by two steel girders AG and BH. The girders are supported by four columns at A,B,G and H as shown in Fig. 1 below.
The building includes Masonry exterior walls of 10-ft height. These walls are made of 8-in hard Masonry (Brick) hard blocks (with low absorption). Meanwhile, the floor finishing consists of Marble tiles and mortar on a 2-in thick layer of clean and dry sand as shown in Figure 2.
Use the ASCE7-10 standards to calculate the following loads:
The load acting on Beam AB due to the weight of the exterior walls only.
The load acting on Beams AB and CD due to the weight of the floor finishing only.
