Apparent weight. We often say that a bathroom scale measures weight. the force of gravity pulling us to the Earth. But that's not quite accurate. They measure the normal force pushing against them, as demonstrated by picking it up and pressing it against a wall. When we stand on a scale, it tells us our apparent weight, how heavy an object appears to be.
